A Detailed Look at Hitachi Solutions’ Control Framework

Hitachi Solutions’ Control Framework is a template based solution framework built upon Microsoft’s SQL Server Integration Services toolset and is used to configure, process, and monitor SSIS based ETL data flows. The control framework is a consistent and structured approach to manage your ETL data flows for database, Data Warehouse (DW), and Analysis Services Cubes (Cubes) loads.

The Control Framework includes ETL design package templates used to meet standard requirements such as data conversion, data migration, data mart, data warehouse, and other Business Intelligence initiatives. Hitachi Solutions’ Control Framework is designed to provide a flexible execution architecture with the controls, tracking and logging procedures necessary to ensure the complete and accurate processing of your data, data warehouse, and cubes.

Challenges Addressed by Hitachi Solutions Control Framework

  • Lack of consistent, repeatable processes for ETL
    • Comprehensive Approach for ETL: Over time, ETL processes have become disjointed across technologies and methodologies
  • Meeting tight ETL process time frames and Service Level Agreements
    • Lengthy ETL processing windows: Due to large data volumes with multiple sources and targets, processing time often becomes an issue
  • Lack of Visibility in process monitoring
    • Effectively Monitor ETL Process Execution: Often ETL processes are monitored by specific team members needing education and experience in specialized tools
  • Time consuming SSIS package development and configurations
    • Time consuming process development and configuration: During project initiation, standards and templates must be defined and documented, leading to delays in process build and testing windows
  • Lack of extensible and scalable ETL solutions
    • Extensible and Scalable ETL Solutions: As data environments mature, the ability to handle the growing number of data flows and larger data volumes becomes problematic

What You Can Expect From Hitachi Solutions Control Framework

  • Improve data integration from disparate data sources using a common platform
  • Better visibility into periodic and ad-hoc process execution management
  • Save time implementing and testing SSIS packages
  • Ensure process design uses consistent and industry proven ETL strategies
  • Take advantage of powerful parallel processing features to cut down valuable processing cycles
  • Realize operational efficiencies and lower costs by leveraging  existing Microsoft SQL Server organizational technology architectures
  • Build durable and robust ETL processes for data migration, data warehousing, data marts, and other ETL requirements
  • Improve confidence in being able to quickly and decisively track down and resolve process failures and errors
